Sydney, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) The losses caused by the floods in Australia are the worst national disaster ever, according to local press and official reports.

“In economic terms, this is the worst disaster ever in the country,” said a local television report, adding that reconstruction would take years.

MELBOURNE, Australia — Churning floodwaters continued to rise across a vast swath of northeastern Australia on Tuesday as authorities worked to grapple with the multibillion-dollar economic toll from record inundations that have killed at least nine people.

QUEENSLAND is suffering a disaster “of biblical proportions” that will set back its economic recovery, state Treasurer Andrew Fraser says.

Mr Fraser has warned Queenslanders there’ll be serious economic consequences from the worst flooding in the state’s recorded history.
“In many ways, it is a disaster of biblical proportions,” he told reporters in the flood-hit city of Bundaberg today.
