Madrid, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) Spain’s Foreign Affairs Minister Trinidad Jimenez was hopeful that the majority of European Union member nations move towards the recognition of a Palestinian state, reported El Pais daily on Sunday.
“There’s the feeling that now is the time to do something, to give the Palestinians the hope that a state could become a reality,” she said in an interview with El Pais newspaper published on Sunday.
Jimenez warned that if the international community does not give Palestinians some signal, a great frustration could generate for Palestinian people.
The Foreign minister stressed that they have worked focusing on the idea that a majority of EU nations can show progress in the recognition of the Palestinian State, which is a shared goal by all the nations of the world in order to give a solution to the Middle East conflict.
However, the Spanish FM admitted that if talks between Israel and Palestine National Authority are not resumed, it will be very complex to reach that goal.
Support for the creation of a Palestinian State will be one of the topics for discussion at the meeting of European Union foreign ministers on Sept. 2 in Sopot, Poland.
