Caracas, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Venezuela plans to increase the people´s access to cell phones and increase the total of cell phones assembled by local firms to two million this year, according to the Minister of Science, Technology and Intermediate Industries Ricardo Menendez.
Menendez toured the two new production lines of Venezolana de Telecomunicationes (Vtelca), in Falcon state, expected to produce 1.21 million cell phones by late December.
He said that only in the first semester this year, Vtelca made 417,196 cell phones, a positive figure taking into account the 147,572 produced in 2009 and the 621,131 made at the end of 2010.
He said the two stages intended to increase the number of cell phones of the Vergatario brand through the mechanism of social production-oriented businesses generate 108 new jobs.
He also highlighted that the factory, created in 2009 as a result of a cooperation agreement between the Corporation of Intermediate Industries of Venezuela and the Chinese cell phone making company ZTE, is expected to end the year with 1.21 million cell phones.
A main peculiarity of the plant is that it produces mobile phones for the visually impaired, with a special screen and big Braille keyboards.
As part of a national plan to promote the development of telephony and reach more people, President Hugo Chavez inaugurated last year a second factory named Industria Electronica Orinoquia, which plans to end 2011 with 800,000 cell phones.
