Honduras, Canada to Sign FTT

Tegucigalpa, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) Honduras and Canada will sign a free trade treaty on Friday that will open up both countries’ markets to traditional and non-traditional exports and boost investment. The treaty will be signed by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Honduran President Porfirio Lobo, according to a government press release.

The treaty also touches on issues that are sensitive for Canada, such as pork and beef quotas, and includes tax relief for products that already enjoy the Generalized Tariff Preference and local defense of some products.

The signing of the final document will be in San Pedro Sula.

Harper will arrive in Honduras as part of a Latin America tour that also includes Brazil, Colombia and Costa Rica.

During a brief visit to Tegucigalpa, Harper will meet with Lobo to tackle issues such as trade, security, cooperation and business opportunities.
