France: Communist MP Wants Investigation of Intervention in Libya

Paris, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) Communist Party (PCF) MP Jean-Jacques Candelier demanded an indepedent investigation Friday into the nature and objectives of military intervention in Libya.

Because of UN Security Council Resolution 1973, the United States, Britain and France took control over operations in Libya, the deputy noted.

The protection of civilians was the pretext to intervene, just as weapons of mass destruction were the pretext to militarily intervene in Iraq, but none of those were the real motives, according to Candelier.

The parliament deputy underlined that the investigation should unveil the real reasons for military intervention, which continue to be hidden from the French people.

Since the start of attacks on Libya, the PCF has questioned the real intentions of Western powers and warned of the dangers of war.
