Vietnam Gov’t Aims to Reduce Gender Inequality

Hanoi, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) The Vietnamese government approved a five-year plan to reduce gender inequality and guarantee women better jobs and more of a role in the State.

In fact, two women were included in the newly-approved Cabinet as the ministers of public health and lLabor, war invalids and social affairs, and one parliament deputy president is a woman.

This program approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will close the gender gap in areas where it is too wide, although the process will be slow, as it implies cultural changes, according to the government´s website.

Five national projects will be implemented, starting with a campaign to raise awareness on this problem, followed by training and management courses focused on gender inequality in all levels.

The plan also includes vocational counseling and services to fight gender-based violence.
