Bolivia, China Boost Lithium Production

La Paz, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian government and the Chinese statecompany CITIC Guoan signed a a memorandum of understanding to process lithium from the Uyuni Salt Flats, it was announced.

According to news reports on Tuesday, the president of the Bolivian National Mining Corporation (Comibol), Hugo Miranda, said all companies interested in participating in that stage of the project would have to cover the costs of research and the main elements for producing lithium batteries (cathode and electrolyte).

The pilot stage of lithium and potassium production is scheduled to conclude this year, according to official reports.

This project is being financed by a credit signed by the Bolivian Central Bank (BCB) and Comibol.
