Lima, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) The Andean Community of Nations (CAN) is headed toward a process of becoming stronger, the Andean Presidential Council agreed during a brief summit in the Peruvian capital after the inauguration of President Ollanta Humala.
The 18th meeting of that Council was attended by Humala and the presidents of Bolivia, Evo Morales; Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos; and Ecuador, Rafael Correa.
The presidents promised to strengthen and renew the Andean integration process due to its important contributions to Latin American integration.
They also agreed on the need to begin a process to review the institutional structure and functioning of the Andean Integration System, which is made up of different specialized organizations.
The four presidents reaffirmed their commitment to the dialogue among different regional and sub-regional mechanisms to strengthen and boost Latin American integration, such as the Southern Common Market, the Union of South American Nations, and the Latin American Integration Association.
During the meeting at the government palace, Bolivia handed over the temporary chairmanship of the bloc to Colombia, for the 2011-12 period.
