Geneva, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) Cuba regretted the decision to grant the NGO International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), due to its hostile platform to certain Latin American countries.
Nancy Madrigal, Chargé d´affaires of the Cuban Mission in Geneva, rejected the decision considering that it lacerates the provisions of the NGO´s Committee and violates resolution 1996/31.
With regard to IFES, the diplomat recalled that on May 6, 2004 the U.S. government approved an interventionist report on the so-called Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba.
Madrigal said that the US Agency for International Development (USAID), subordinated to the State Department, implements and develops an openly interventionist policy against Cuba.
Since 1996, it has a program called “democracy in Cuba”, wich sponsors the subversive plans against our country. IFES is one of the organizations listed by the USAID as participants in this program against Cuba, she said.
