Mexico, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) The Caravan “Step by Step Towards Peace” leaves Guatemala for Mexico to demand the government of Felipe Calderón the cessation of attacks against Central American migrants, as well as unfairly blaming organized crime for the abuses.
“While the government offers excuses, migrants around Mexico are guilty for deads, kidnappings, and rapes”, according to a statement by the Mesoamerican Migrant Movement.
According to the document the origin of migrant kidnappings is linked to territories controlled by organized crime, mainly in the states of Tamaulipas, Tabasco and Veracruz, where most of these cases are recorded.
The presence and control of organized crime and its links with local, state and federal authorites “have turned these sites into lawless lands”, says the civilian agency.
For this reason, the Mesoamerican Migrant Movement proposed to curb and disseminate nationally and internationally, the situation of migrant kidnappings by means of the Caravan Step by Step Towards Peace.
The movement expects to involve migrants in transit, migrantsâÖ human rights activists and journalists.
In the caravan will participate prominent activists such as Father Alejandro Solalinde, Luis Angel Nieto, Heyman Vazquez and Fray Tomas Gonzalez, among others.
