Mexico, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) Director of the Guanajuato International Film Festival Sara Hoch said everything is ready for the event scheduled to run July 22-31.
The Festival will be held on July 22-26 in the city of San Miguel de Allende and on July 27-31 in the city of Guanajuato.
She said films from 108 countries are expected to compete in the categories of First Foreign Work, Short Fiction Film, Animation, Experimental and Documentary.
The festival will be opened with the screening of the Mexican film Miss Bala by Gerardo Naranjo, screened out of contest at the Cannes Film Festival.
South Korea is the Guest of Honor.
Activities will include lectures, exhibitions and workshops.
The Silver Cross will be given to US screenwriter-director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver and Raging Bull) and Korean filmmaker Bong-Joon-ho (Memories of Murder and The Host).
Homages will be paid to Korean film programmer So-Young Kim and Mexicans Isela Vega (actress) and Marissa Garrido (TV and radio scriptwriter), while actress Silvia Navarro, who was born in Guanajuato, will be the image of the festival.
The 100th birthday anniversary of late actor Jorge Negrete (also born in Guanajuato) will be marked with the launch of a book on his life and work.
