Guatemala, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) Children”s learning and enjoyment are the focus of the International Book Fair of Guatemala (Filgua) this weekend.
Running at Parque de la Industria, the fair opened on Thursday, but there is an extensive program of children’s activities over the weekend, when parents are off work.
The objective is to encourage reading habits among the population through creative, enjoyable actions.
On Saturday, some 2,000 children attended the fair, where they enjoyed stories, learned about the electoral process, and interacted with their parents in reading, music and handicrafts, among other activities.
Today they are scheduled to take part in workshops on decoration and conservation techniques for books, school notebooks and pencils.
Performances by jugglers, clowns and mime artists, as well as games and films, are also part of today’s program.
The general slogan of Filgua is “For a Country of Readers,” but this year the motto is “Citizenship, Letter by Letter.”
According to organizers, it is an invitation to reflect and suggests the creation and dissemination of critical, conscious thinking oriented to generate love for the living word in the editorial world.
More than 35,000 people are expected to visit the fair, and book sales are expected to reach over 60,000, more than last year.
