Ankara, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) The Libya Contact Group is meeting Friday in Istanbul to discuss how to press leader Muammar Gaddafi to step down from power.
The group, comprising 42 members of national delegations and international organizations, was meeting for the fourth time since it was created in late March, and will analyzes the transition process in Libya and a possible cease-fire.
The meeting in Istanbul is taking place as NATO and Libyan rebels intensified their attacks on government positions in eastern Libya.
Tripoli sources affirm that since the aggression began, more than 1,100 civilians have died in NATO bombings.
NATO denies its involvement, but Libyan Attorney General Mohamed Zekri Mahjubi said that alliance of Western powers is responsible for more than 1,000 deaths.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said NATO would continue its operations against Gaddafi as long as necessary, with the supposed purpose of protecting civilians.
