Beirut, (Prensa Latina) Syria accused the United States on Tuesday of interfering in its affairs following a statement by the U.S. State Department.
The Syrian accusation targeted U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who said at a Monday press conference that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had lost his legitimacy.
The Syrian president has not kept his promises and has sought and accepted Iranian assistance to repress his own people, Clinton charged.
That allegation is similar to those made by Western leaders previously, right before the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya, and the subsequent beginning of air strikes on civilian areas in Libaya.
The Syrian government vigorously denounced Clinton’s declarations, considered as further examples of flagrant U.S. interference in Syria’s internal affairs, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
