Montevideo, (Prensa Latina) According to the Uruguayan press actions against drug trafficking resulted in the destruction of 1,400 kilograms of drugs and the conviction of three drug traffickers.
The Ministry of Interior ordered the incineration of 1,041kg of marihuana and 314 kg of cocaine, seized during searches in Lavalleja Department, 74.6 miles (120km) from Montevideo.
Oscar Gabarrot, chief of the Republican Guard, an organization to prevent crime, told the press that the operation had the support of that organization, with the participation of 40 of its soldiers.
Gabarrot said that they selected the ovens of that organization to burn and destroy the drug, seized in one of the major operations in recent times due to the amount of drug seized.
On the other hand, the Uruguayan Anti drug Brigade arrested 5 people involved in drug trafficking, and seized more than 12kg of cocaine paste, also known as coca paste, priced at 140,000 USD.
