Christine Lagarde Assumes IMF Management

Washington,  (Prensa Latina) Former French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde assumed the post of managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In a ceremony held at IMF headquarters in this city, Lagarde suggested a morning meeting with reporters to reiterate her plan to give more voice to the 187 member states of the organization.

The former French minister takes up her post just five days after the IMF Executive Board selected her on June 28, as a substitute for Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

The former head of the agency resigned last May after being accused of attempting to rape an employee of a New York hotel, but he is on bail pending a court appearance in two weeks.
