Libyan Rebels Threaten to Attack Tripoli

Tripoli,  (Prensa Latina) Rebel leaders threatened on Monday to carry out a massive attack over Tripoli and to intensify combats in the western region of Libya, while leader Muammar Gaddafi refused to abandon his rule under foreign extreme pressure.

Spokesman of the National Transitional Council (CNT), Ahmed Bani, noted that rebels are fighting in western areas and have enough supplies and power as to face pro-Gaddafi forces, which forced them to withdraw some days ago.

Bani told reporters in Benghazi, bastion of the rebels, that given the rebelsâÖ combative potential, they do not need reinforcements to slow down any counteroffensive launched by the Army, but put forward that they have refused to attack the capital to prevent civilian casualties.

The spokesman added that the immediate plan is trying to recapture Bir Al-Ghanam, a town near Tripoli, so that the rebels can advance towards the capital, backed by NATO air raids.
