Havana, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) Dr. Lea Guido Lopez, outgoing representative of the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization in Cuba, received the Medal of Friendship granted by the Cuban Council of State in recognition of her work.
In presenting the Nicaraguan doctor with the medal, Public Health Minister Roberto Morales praised the friendship and solidarity she has shown since beginning her duties here in 2004.
Deputy Health Minister Roberto Gonzalez referred to Guido’s efforts in Haiti, particularly following the 2010 earthquake, when she supported and collaborated with the work of Cuban doctors.
Guido said she felt indebted to Cuba and was grateful to the Cuban people for their humanity and solidarity.
“The only thing I have tried to do and will keep on doing, is the right thing, the good thing, and fight so that a better world is possible,” she said.
On behalf of her family and herself, she thanked Cuban President Raul Castro and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.
The new PAHO-WHO representative in Cuba is Jose Luis Di Fabio.
