Santos highlights Colombia, Venezuela high-level relations

Caracas, 21 Jun. AVN .- The president of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos highlighted this Monday the good relations with his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez and the mutual benefit brought to the two countries by restoring bilateral ties on August 10, 2010.

“Honestly, I think that in these ten months everything has been a benefit for Colombia and Venezuela. I hope we can remain as it is, because this is what the region, Colombia, Venezuela and even Ecuador need,” the President underscored.

Santos recalled that despite he had some argues with Chavez in the past “and we think very different;” currently, “we respect each other and we behave as responsible head of States, thinking in Venezuelans and Colombians well-being.”

“I think Colombia has been greatly benefited with this new international policy,” Santos added and highlighted that regarding trade “we have told our exporters: change the chip, the paradigm,” since Venezuela does not conduct economic relations on the basis of a free market system.

“We will make all we can to make the trade to grow more and more,” Santos underscored.

The President of Colombia is expected to hold a new meeting soon with president Chavez so as to come to a new agreement that will replace the rules established when Venezuela was part of the Andean Community (CAN in Spanish).
