Mexico City, Jun 17 (Prensa Latina) The arrest of an alleged perpetrator of the murder of the bodyguards of Nuevo Leon Governor Rodrigo Medina was one of the top headlines in Monterrey on Friday.
A group of 26 municipal policemen were arrested yesterday for alleged links to a group that killed the bodyguards of Medina, who also has received death threats, according to Adrian de la Garza, attorney from Monterrey.
Also yesterday, five of the gunmen responsible for those killings died in a clash with soldiers, the attorney said.
Wednesday was a deadly day for Monterrey, with 33 people killed, according to a spokesman for the Security Council in Nuevo Leon, Jorge Domene Zambrano.
The city reported 267 murders in 2009, 828 in 2010, and more than 770 this year to date, according to official figures.
