Port-au-Prince, (Prensa Latina) At least 28 people died and six were missing in Haiti after heavy rains that affected the country for over a week, the Civil Protection Directorate confirmed on Friday.
The directorate announced that it continued assessing damages, and that the death toll could rise.
The western region was the most affected by the rainfall, landslides and floods, and a total of 726 people had been evacuated.
According to Alta Jean Baptiste, head of the Civil Protection Directorate, the situation was critical in Tabarre, Petionville, Carrefour, Cité Soleil and Delmas and in the town of Grand-Anse.
Nearly 670 houses were damaged, more than 40 were completely destroyed and 700 people were affected by the heavy rainfall, Baptiste said.Ω
