Brussels, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) reaffirmed Thursday that it will continue attacking Libya, after acknowledging the resistance of forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that Gadaffi´s troops “are still a threat,” and requested further support for guaranteeing the success of the mission.
In statements to the press, Rasmussen stated that NATO defense ministers agreed on Wednesday to extend the operation in Libya for a further 90 days after June 27.
The NATO secretary general affirmed that “Gadaffi is history,” and urged the UN to draw up a plan for when it will take over the mission.
Rasmussen commented that when the Libyan conflict ends, NATO will not have a leadership, but quickly clarified that the organization is willing to consolidate the post-Gadaffi era.
