Havana, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) Relatives, friends and Cubans of all ages are thinking about the Cuban antiterrorist fighter Ramon Labañino on Thursday, wishing they could celebrate his 48th birthday with him in person.
However, that wish shared by many, especially his three daughters, will be postponed because the U.S. government has maintained this man in prison for almost 13 years now.
Ramon, along with Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez, was detained on September 12, 1998 for monitoring anti-Cuban terrorist groups based in Miami, Florida.
After a rigged trial in Miami, the Cuban Five, as they are universally known, have been serving harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to double life terms.
Labañino, far from his house and his oved ones, was initially sentenced to life imprisonment, plus 18 years of prison, and after a resentencing in December 2009, he is serving 30 years.
