United Nations, (Prensa Latina) The United Nations called on authorities and security forces of Bahrain to act in accordance with international standards with regard to human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The call was made by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a message distributed in New York by the office of the official spokesman for the organization.
The statement welcomed the announced lifting of the state of emergency imposed on that country in March and also the call of King Hamad Bin Isa al-Khalifa for a national dialogue starting on July 1.
Both decisions were published today in Bahrain.
The state of emergency was declared after a month of protests by Muslims of the Bahraini Shiite, severely crushed by the Sunni government.
In his message, Ban Ki-moon hopes that the dialogue announced by the monarch is genuine and leads to an inclusive process of reforms based on the political, social and economic aspirations of the people of that Arab state.
