Quito, May 31 (Prensa Latina) The first meeting of the conflict resolution committee of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) opened Tuesday with the participation of Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño.
The meeting, which ends tomorrow, includes the personal representatives of the presidents of the 12 member nations of UNASUR, except for Surinam.
The group is expected to approve the creation of a South American Center for Conflict Resolution, based on the view, expressed by Patiño, that “it is possible to establish our own mechanism to resolve disputes.”
He also recalled that the proposal submitted by Ecuador in Guyana on November 26, 2010, was approved by the heads of state.
Patiño reiterated that the idea is to create a legal institution as part of the regional bloc that is not only related to economic, social and political integration, but also to solving disputes among countries and between states and legal entities.
