Bali, Indonesia, May 25 (Prensa Latina) The Non-Aligned Movement is about to issue a declaration on Palestinian political prisoners in Israel to internationalize opposition to these unjust arrests, a diplomatic source said Wednesday.
The statement is very important because it is the first time a NAM ministerial meeting specifically addresses the issue, the Palestinian ambassador to United Nations, Riyad Mansour, told Prensa Latina.
Palestinian authorities are satisfied with the decision because it is very important for their people and the document adopted by the high-level segment of the meeting is excellent, Mansour said.
The declaration, which may be signed at higher levels of the 16th NAM Ministerial Meeting, internationalizes the issue while making the prisoners´ situation known worldwide.
Many should be immediately released, including women and children, he said.
Six thousand Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, and about 1,700 of them have cancer, heart disease, kidney failure and other illnesses. About 300 of them are children.
