Washington, May 24 (Prensa Latina) The US south is the region of the country where most violent crimes occur, according to official statistics for 2009.
With 7.5 percent, the US south is leading the four regions with more violent crime, after the north central region (5.8), the west (5.8) and the northeast (0.4).
The numbers reported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2010 are preliminary and rely on reports of 13, 000 police units, says the report.
In cities with populations of 250 thousand to half a million the number of homicides rose by three percent, the report adds.
Murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault cases also occurred more in the south than in other U.S. regions.
