Tehran, May 21 (Prensa Latina) Iran announced on Saturday that it identified and dismantled an extensive U.S. spy network, with dozens of branches, operations centers and groups in different countries, and arrested 30 agents.
The Iranian Intelligence Ministry stated that its officials dismantled a “complex spy and sabotage network affiliated with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)” that used an extensive database, as well as U.S. embassies and consulates.
The detection of the ring was possible thanks to “a series of extensive intelligence and counterespionage measures and operations inside and outside of Iran,” which led to the discovery that CIA agents had created numerous foci for their network in different countries.
Those centers used fronts such as labor associations and educational centers with Iranian citizens to collect intelligence information about the Islamic Republic, said the press release issued Saturday.
According to the Ministry, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Turkey were the main countries in which the CIA collected data on Iranian scientists, research and academic institutions in the areas of nuclear energy, air and defense industries and biotechnology.
The CIA ring also collected data on Iranian oil and gas pipelines, power and telecommunication grids, airports, customs departments, network security and banks for future sabotage operations, the statement said.
