Tripoli, May 20 (Prensa Latina) NATO attacked three Libyan ports, including that of the capital, on Friday destroying eight ships after the Gadaffi administration considered Barack Obama’s predictions for this country as “deceptive”.
NATO warplanes bombed the ports of Tripoli, Al Khums and Surt claiming that there were naval warships with no civilian utility.
State-owned Libyan television underlined that the attacks took place on Friday early morning and the ships were docked in the port of Tripoli. The reports denied that the ships had been used to attack civilians, as a NATO spokesman previously stated.
Rear Adm. Russell Harding, deputy commander of the NATO mission, claimed that Gadaffi had increased the use of the naval force to attack civilians and to lay mines indiscriminately, a situation that hindered the delivery of aid by sea.
The rebels, backed by the air raids of the West continue fighting pro-Gadaffi forces near the cities of Ajdabiya and Brega, and in the areas of the Nafusa Mountains, southeastern Tripoli.
Libyan authorities reiterated their rejection to the intervention of the West in their country, an action protected by an UN resolution stipulating the imposition of a no-fly zone, and denounced the high number of victims and displaced people, equivalent to more than 750,000.
