Beijing, May 20 (Prensa Latina) China’s manned submersible “Jiaolong” will try a record 5,000m-deep dive in July in unannounced area coordinated by the Health and Technology Ministry. Oceanographic Administration Director Liu Cigui made the announcement at national Ocean Development Symposium.
The media said the mini sub Jiaolong -name of the mythic sea dragon- set a record dive in 2010 with three men aboard of 3,759m. It was fit to descend 7,000m. It made 17 immersions at the South China Sea from May 31st to July 18, 2010.
Liu said China will also launch its second sea satellite (HY-2) later this year, while other sources mentioned the construction of a multipurpose deep-sea base in Shandong province to facilitate sea floor exploration and navigation.
