San Juan, May 12 (Prensa Latina) The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is trying to criminalize the struggle for the independence of Puerto Rico through President Barack ObamaâÖs antiterrorism rhetoric against terrorism.
The arrest of the historical leader of the underground organization Boricua Popular Army (EPB-Macheteros), Norberto Gonzalez Claudio, is part if an FBI vendetta, said Juan Dalmau, general secretary of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP).
They are hiding behind the rhetoric of Obama about his alleged struggle against terrorism to try to grotesquely link Norberto and the independence movement with terrorism, the PIP leader said.
This is just another example of a long list of abuse and outrage carried out by the U.S. agencies of repression against those fighting for Puerto Rican independence, Dalmau said.
Dalmau Ramirez urged people to protest on Friday in front of the U.S. federal court in Hato Rey, where charges would be brought against the leftist leader arrested on Tuesday after 25 years of evading FBI persecution.
Gonzalez Claudio, 65, is expected to be extradited to the United States to be tried in Connecticut. In that state in 1985, a federal grand jury issued an arrest warrant for his alleged participation in the theft of 7.2 million USD from Wells Fargo deposit in 1983.
