Caracas, 06 May. AVN .- Almost 4,000 families will be benefited with the diverse decrees signed on Thursday by the President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez on transfer, purchase or compulsory purchase of lands and buildings.
During a Council of Ministers, the head of State approved a total of $48.84 million for the development of 11 self-construction projects that will benefit 1,148 families.
The construction of the projects will be in charge of the socialist organization Dwellers” Movement.
The expropriation of five urban lands was signed by President Chavez for the construction of households.
It was also approved the transfer to the Housing Ministry of 6 urban lands that were owned by diverse State organs. Then, the lands will be handed over by the Ministry to the Dwellers Movement.
“A right-wing government will never do this, on the contrary. Most in need sectors would be never able to pay for these lands,” Chavez said and added that the lands will be handed over “because they are not a merchandise. We are eliminating such perversion over goods that are absolutely essential for human life.”
A sum of $48.84 million were approved by the Executive branch for the construction of housing projects in those soils.
Chavez recalled that families will pay, according to their incomes, the cost of houses in a 15 years period or more.
Occupation of buildings approved
President Chavez approved the expropriation of 30 abandoned buildings for the families living in makeshift shelters and organized into popular housing committees.
He explained that such buildings will receive proper maintenance and fixing “so families can move from shelters to their new homes as soon as possible.”
The vice-president of Venezuela Elias Jaua said that families have reiterated their willingness to pay the cost of their properties.
Regarding the willingness of some owners to sell 99 buildings located in the Metropolitan Area of Caracas, the head of State approved the start of negotiations.
