Nearly 7,000 Evacuees in DR for Rains

Santo Domingo, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) About 7,000 people remained evacuated in the Dominican Republic on Friday as a result of rains caused by tropical storm Emily.

On Thursday, there were 21 provinces under alert because of the risk of sea flooding and landslides, said the Emergency Operation Center.

Dominican Organizations Prepare General Strike

Santo Domingo, June 19 (Prensa Latina) Various social organizations will join transport workers on Monday to protest higher prices for basic goods and services, according to speakers at a meeting in San Pedro de Macoris on Saturday.

The coordinated action will become a general, nationwide strike, organizers said.

Torrential Rains Put Dominican Republic on Alert

Santo Domingo, (Prensa Latina) The hurricane season opened in the Dominican Republic with torrential rains that flooded the capital, putting 10 provinces on alert.

The Emergency Operations Center issued a green alert for the central-southern provinces of Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Duarte, Monte Plata, San Cristobal and San Jose de Ocoa, and a yellow alert was declared for the provinces of Sanchez Ramirez in the central region, and Independencia, Bahoruco and San Juan in the west.

Dominican Republic Makes Ministerial Changes

Santo Domingo, Mar 2 (Prensa Latina) President Leonel Fernandez named new ministers of Education, Interior and Police, as well as directors of Civil Aviation and the National Institute of Public Administration.
